Cindy Lou,
You started from a young girl when we first met.
You had your pigtail braids and a smile I can’t forget.
But there was something more, the girl who had a twinkle in her eye.
Not knowing where to find me and wanting to know the reason why.
I love the girl I used to know. There was something special about her.
But you grew up quick and the lies about me got louder.
You’re right. Nothing is easy when you take a stand for something that is good.
You were the only one who knew me then, before the others finally understood.
Here’s the thing: your world is changing for the better yet is becoming harder.
I’m here to remind you that times can still be good. Look at the man who calls you his daughter.
So here’s what I’ll do. I’ll show you the meaning of me.
It starts with a tale of who you truly want to be.
I met you as a girl, yes, I know this to be true.
But you grew up so fast. I wanted to tell something to you.
Don’t lose the girl I used to know, she had a heart of gold.
You can always be her. Even when you’re a hundred years old.
It’s hard to know you more when I only see you but once a year.
Everytime I see you you’re bigger, it makes me shed a tear.
This year was special, because you came to me first.
You came to me at your most desperate moment, you called it your worst.
I have the power to give you a treasure that will last your whole life.
So I will finish with this: you will one day be a wife.
You will meet a boy and the two of you will fall in love.
He will be my gift to you, he’ll be better than a turtle dove.
So do I change? This is your final question.
I would for you. That’s not even a suggestion.
How I do miss you,
Christmas
