The Cave

My response to NEEDTOBREATHE’s song “The Cave”

Arguably the most intense song that NTB has released. The intensity of the instruments parallels the depth of the lyrics. I believe this all symbolizes how the intensity of the person speaking cannot be contained. The music is liberating. There is no holding back its power. It is in that power that the power of the speaker finds its foundation. There is, essentially, evidence to empower the speaker. And this speaker is someone who endured an encaged time period but is now setting out to encounter wholly satisfying freedom. It’s almost like this person is the one being described as “the Everknown ” and is giving his reasoning for why he left. There is a parallel connection between this voice and the Everknown. Someone of power, of confidence, yet also great suffering and misconceptions. But in the last little bit of the final lines of my journal I wanted to actually make the connection from this song The Cave to the album title and cover “Caves”.

The song The Cave talks about one person’s journey to find complete freedom, yet the album is called “Caves”, plural. The plural form of caves hints that every person involved in creating this album or even listening to this album has a unique story of how they are escaping their own cave. Every song so far has a journey of escape from a cave, and I fully expect that the other songs on this album will have a similar weight to them. These three songs have truly been awesome. They have moved me. Given me confidence. Given me hope. And given me strength to pursue the dream I set out to complete. I dream of a place where belief in the love of one another is so prevalent that growth of that love is the fulfillment of your results.
